I absolutely believe my son gave me ADHD. Yes you read it right, he gave it to me not the other way around. Let me explain.

Prior to pregnancy, I was very focused. I could sit and work on a task for hours without breaking focus. I was detail oriented and not to boast but I honestly excelled at any assignment I was given.

Now here’s where things get interesting. When I was pregnant, I had zero focus – I’d lay on my desk at work and literally count the minutes until 5pm. I was told “oh it’s just pregnancy brain, it’ll pass.” Well… 4 years later and I’m the still not able to focus like I used to. In fact, I only use one monitor at work because I’d have a bad habit of getting distracted by the second monitor and would start a new task before finishing my previous.

So here’s my scientific theory behind it. The Scientific American notes that a child’s DNA lives in the mother’s brain forever. Well guess what – my son’s father has ADHD. I’m convinced he passed that gene onto my son and with his DNA living in me, I now also have it. Food for thought.
